Mr Mengoni is the New Focal Point Representing Italy at the Sahel Alliance
Roberto Mengoni began his diplomatic career in 1997 as Legation Secretary at the Directorate General for Personnel and Administration. In Rome, he also worked in the Directorate General for Political Affairs and the Directorate General for Asia, Oceania, Pacific and Antarctic Countries.
In July 2007, he was appointed Legation Counsellor, then Embassy Counsellor in July 2012. From 2000 to 2008, he was posted abroad, first to Seoul as First Commercial Secretary, then to Canberra as Adviser on Emigration and Social Affairs.
On his return to La Farnesina, he worked in the Human Resources and Organisation Department until 2016. From 2016 to 2021, Roberto Mengoni is Ambassador to Dar es Salaam and Moroni (Comoros), and to the East African Community.
In 2021, he returned to Rome to oversee migration policies as coordinator of agreements and policies on international mobility and regular migratory flows, reporting to the Director General for Italians Abroad and Migration Policies.
Since January 2024, he works at the Directorate General for Development Cooperation, where he is responsible for development cooperation policies in Africa.
