Accelerating investment in Women in the Sahel
The challenges facing the Sahel region require solutions that empower women. Change is possible by accelerating the transition to a fairer, safer and more egalitarian society.
The participation of women and girls at all levels of social, political, economic and cultural life is essential to achieving stability and sustainable development in the Sahel. On the economic front, sustained investment is needed to further promote women’s entrepreneurship. Intensifying their participation in conflict prevention and management, peace-building and humanitarian disaster management, will help stabilize the socio-political context necessary to promote development actions.
Today, Alliance members support 160 projects with gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls as their main objective, and 663 projects with a significant objective.
Gathered within a dedicated working group, the members of the Sahel Alliance are implementing a number of actions to reinforce this priority agenda, including:
- setting up a system for sharing research and knowledge on gender through the Alliance Sahel website
- partnerships with women’s civil society organizations;
- sharing co-financing opportunities by presenting projects and programmes.
